Iran-US Peace Talks: The approximately 21-hour long talks between the US and Iran in Islamabad ended without reaching any concrete conclusion. This has dashed hopes for a ceasefire between the two countries and also weakened the possibility of opening the Strait of Hormuz.
The failure of these talks has also dealt a blow to Pakistan internationally. Pakistan was trying to improve its image and build a positive identity on the global stage through this meeting. Its aim was to receive additional financial support from institutions like Saudi Arabia, the US, and the International Monetary Fund based on this initiative, but the outcome of the talks dashed its hopes.
JD Vance Returns Displeased
Despite approximately 21 hours of peace talks in Islamabad yielding no concrete results, US Vice President JD Vance appeared displeased. He told the media that the talks were long and serious, but no agreement could be reached.
Vance stated that several important issues were discussed between both sides, but no consensus was reached. He also clarified that the US had made its conditions and limits completely clear, but Iran did not accept them. As a result, the American delegation is returning without any agreement.
When questioned about the main issue of the talks, JD Vance clearly stated that America’s priority is clear—to prevent Iran from developing nuclear weapons. He said that the US wants Iran to give a firm assurance that it will neither build nuclear weapons nor acquire resources that would enable it to quickly develop such weapons.
According to Vance, this is the main objective of the American leadership, and these talks were advanced with this very purpose. He stated that the US has presented a final and clear proposal, and now it remains to be seen whether Iran accepts it or not.
