A very tragic incident has emerged from the national capital Delhi. On Wednesday morning, a massive fire broke out in a four-story building located in the Palam area, in which at least 9 people lost their lives.
It is being reported that the fire started from a cosmetic shop located on the ground floor. In no time, the flames rapidly engulfed the upper floors as well, making the situation uncontrollable.
At the time of the incident, about 18 people were present inside the building. According to information, after the fire broke out, some people jumped from above to save their lives, but many people got trapped inside as the only exit route was engulfed in flames. Initial reports suggested many people were trapped, after which a rescue operation was immediately launched. Several fire engines reached the spot, and relief and rescue operations continued.
Meanwhile, the fire department stated that information about a fire in a building located in the Palam area of South-West Delhi was received around 7 AM. This incident occurred in Gali No. 2, near Palam Metro Station, where a house caught fire and people were feared trapped. Upon receiving the information, about 30 fire engines were dispatched to the spot, which were engaged in extinguishing the fire and rescue operations.
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has also taken cognizance of the building fire incident in Palam and ordered a magisterial inquiry. Expressing her grief on social media platform X, she wrote that she is deeply distressed to learn about this tragic incident.
She informed that some people are still feared trapped in the building, while teams from the district administration, Delhi Fire Service, and police are engaged in relief and rescue operations at the spot. Additionally, instructions for a magisterial inquiry have been issued for a complete investigation of the incident. She also wished for everyone’s safety.
