The political atmosphere for the Tamil Nadu assembly elections has intensified, and all parties have started campaigning. Amidst this, actor-turned-politician Vijay has made a big announcement that his party, Tamizhaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK), will contest all 234 seats in the state alone. This decision shows the party’s aggressive strategy.
With this move, TVK has presented itself as a new and strong contender in a political arena long dominated by Dravidian parties.
As part of election preparations, the party will hold a large public meeting in Mamallapuram on March 27, where its candidates will be announced.
According to party sources, Vijay himself will announce the candidates on stage and present the party’s vision and electoral strategy. This is considered a crucial step in TVK’s preparations.
Sources also say that Vijay might contest from Chennai’s Perambur constituency, although official confirmation is still awaited.
Considerable enthusiasm is being seen regarding his potential candidacy, especially among youth and first-time voters, who are considered his strong supporters.
Meanwhile, the party is preparing to intensify its election campaign from March 28. Vijay is scheduled to hold public meetings in several key areas of Chennai such as Perambur, Kolathur, Villivakkam, Anna Nagar, and Virugambakkam.
According to reports, approximately 3,000 people have been allowed at each public meeting. However, the Election Commission has not granted permission for rallies in 12 other areas due to regulations.
In fact, these restrictions have been increased after a stampede during a Vijay event in Karur on September 27, 2025, in which 41 people lost their lives. Following this incident, the Tamil Nadu Police has implemented strict rules regarding his related events and crowd management to prevent such incidents in the future.
As the elections draw closer, the entry of Vijay and his party appears to make the contest more interesting. Meanwhile, old alliances are also working to strengthen their hold.
