Hijab banned in South Delhi Corporation schools

Hijab Ban in SDMC Schools: In South Delhi Municipal Corporation schools, a ban has been imposed on girls wearing hijab. Instructions have been given in this regard by writing a letter to the officials of the Education Department on behalf of Nitika Sharma, President of the Corporation Education Committee. He asked the officials to ensure that the students come to the corporation schools wearing only school uniforms.

However, many experts have called for a ban on 'religious dress' in corporation schools, calling the controversy over a letter from Dwarka South Councilor Nitika Sharma to the Education Department of the Municipal Corporation as an unnecessary issue, stating that the councilor's The letter has no official significance and only the education department can issue such rules.

SDMC's education committee chairperson Nitika Sharma in her letter has asked the education director to instruct all zonal officers not to allow students to wear 'religious dress' in the civic body's primary schools. To ensure this such order has been issued neither by the Municipal Corporation or its Education Department.

The development comes after a Class VI student was allegedly harassed for wearing a hijab at a government school in Mustafabad in north-east Delhi earlier this week. However, the school principal had rubbished the claim. Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia told reporters on Thursday that the education department of the state government has not issued any such order.

Several senior education officers of the SDMC, who did not wish to be named, clarified on Friday that the department has not issued any formal order in the matter and there is no compulsion in Nitika Sharma's letter.

An official of the education department said, "We run primary schools up to class V and the children are so small that the issue doesn't affect us... We don't want to create any controversy which doesn't exist." SDMC commissioner Gyanesh Bharti, however, did not respond to HT's requests for comment.

It is noteworthy that in the instructions given by Nitika Sharma to the officials, it has been said that if a student comes to school wearing a hijab, then he should not be allowed to enter the school. Along with this, the family members should also be called to the school and counselled. Nitika Sharma said that in the past, a case of two girl students wearing hijab came to the school in a school of Eastern Corporation, after which the leaders of the three corporations have taken this decision. Soon orders in this regard will also be passed from both the other corporations. Let us inform that 581 schools are run under the Southern Corporation, in which about three lakh students study.

Dress is fixed in school
Nitika Sharma told the Director of Education that the dress of the students studying in our primary schools is fixed. Dress in school is implemented to give equal rights to all the children. It has been seen for some time that some parents are sending their children to school wearing hijab. This is not right. This will create a mentality of inequality among the children, which is not good for their future, so keeping these things in mind, orders should be issued to the regional offices that children come to school only in the prescribed uniform.
