The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Government of India has blocked 35 YouTube channels, 2 Twitter accounts, 2 Instagram accounts, 2 websites and one Facebook account in Pakistan. There were 12 million subscribers on these YouTube channels. Anti-India propaganda was being spread through all channels.

The Government of India has implemented the new Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules, 2021 from 26 May this year. Thanks to the emergency powers of the new IT Rule 16, the government ordered the blocking of these channels and websites. The government had prepared the new rules with the intention to prevent incidents of misuse of social media and digital platforms. These included many issues like luring terrorists to recruit, circulation of objectionable content, financial fraud, promoting violence.

*If an objectionable picture of someone is posted on social media, it will have to be removed within 24 hours of receiving the complaint.
* If any court or government body seeks information about the first originator of any objectionable, mischievous tweet or message, then the companies will have to give it.
*Companies will have to appoint Chief Compliance Officer, Nodal Contact Person, Resident Grievance Officer in three months. These will be Indian citizens.
* The user who wants his verification, social media companies will have to provide it. Like Twitter gives a blue tick to the verified account.
