The government had prepared the new rules with the intention to prevent incidents of misuse of social media and digital platforms. These included many issues like luring terrorists to recruit, circulation of objectionable content, financial fraud, promoting violence.

*If an objectionable picture of someone is posted on social media, it will have to be removed within 24 hours of receiving the complaint.
* If any court or government body seeks information about the first originator of any objectionable, mischievous tweet or message, then the companies will have to give it.
*Companies will have to appoint Chief Compliance Officer, Nodal Contact Person, Resident Grievance Officer in three months. These will be Indian citizens.
* The user who wants his verification, social media companies will have to provide it. Like Twitter gives a blue tick to the verified account.
