What is Aspirational District Program?
The Aspirational District Program was started by the Government of India. It was started by PM Modi himself in January 2018. For this, 112 districts were selected from all over the country, which were backward i.e. which could not develop properly. The Aspirational District Program was started to improve these districts. In these districts, there are 35 such districts, which have been selected by the Ministry of Home Affairs. About 15 crore people live in these districts.

What is the purpose of this program?
Under this program, special attention is given to 5 areas. The areas that are given special attention include health and nutrition, education, agriculture and water resources, financial inclusion and heavy development and basic infrastructure. The objective of this program is to make these districts better, so that the standard of living of the people living here can be improved. The data from these fields is updated on the online portal every month and reviewed from time to time. In order to give a bright future to the poor of the selected districts, the Aspirational District Program was started so that they can be developed.

Why the need for aspirational district program?
According to UNDP's Human Development Index 2016, India was ranked 131st out of 188 countries. In such a situation, the government started this program to improve this ranking. All the states of India have huge potential, but they have to face a lot of challenges to improve health, education, infrastructure etc. to their citizens. Even within the states, some districts are performing well, but some are not.
