Charas worth crores recovered from Nepal smuggled to Bettiah

Bettiah. Drug trade has been exposed in Bettiah of West Champaran district of Bihar. In the joint action of the Border Security Force (SSB) and the police deployed on the Indo-Nepal border, about 14 kg of charas (Marijuana) has been recovered from two smugglers on a motorcycle. The incident took place near Balirampur village of Suryapur Panchayat of Sikta police station area. A man and a woman are included in both the arrested smugglers. They have been identified as Dilip Sah (32), resident of Barwachap under Chanpatia police station area and Kiran Devi (50), wife of Bharat Sah resident of Singhpur Basantpur village of Sathi police station area.

SSB Deputy Commandant Satish Kumar Gupta told that information was received that a woman smuggler has entered the Indian border with a consignment of charas in huge quantity. On information, the SSB alerted the Sikta police station, after which a team was formed. Leading this team, SI Bechu Ram laid a trap on the possible route. In this sequence, when the police reached Chhathia Ghat located in Bardahi village, they saw that a woman and a man were going on a motorcycle with a bag. Seeing the police jeep, both got scared and started running away from the bike. Then the police and SSB personnel chased them and nabbed them near Balirampur village. During the search, 13.8 kg of charas was recovered from the bag with him. The estimated value of the seized charas has been estimated at Rs 2.80 crore.

Police has arrested the two accused. Confirming this, Deputy Commandant of SSB, Satish Kumar Gupta said that secret information was received that a consignment of charas from Nepal was transported to the Indian border by a woman smuggler. From where preparations are being made to send it to other places of the country. At the same time, SI Bechu Ram told that further action is being taken by registering an FIR in the matter. Police also seized a motorcycle numbered BR22 R 1021 from the accused.
