China is building an international airport in Gwadar

The work on the International Airport being built by China at Gwadar in Balochistan region of Pakistan is likely to be completed by 15 September 2023. This report has been given by the Chinese Government News Agency. New Gwadar International Airport is very important according to China's strategy. The Gwadar Airport project is being built under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor.

Airport being built at a cost of 1800 crores

Rs 1800 crore is to be spent on this project started in 2019. This project is fully funded by the Chinese government. According to reports, the Gwadar airport being built covering an area of 18 square kilometers will be the second largest airport in Pakistan. Two runways are being built at the airport. So far, more than 40 per cent of the project work has been completed and the terminal is taking shape.

Imran Khan had laid the foundation stone of the airport

Former Pakistan PM Imran Khan had laid the foundation stone of New Gwadar International Greenfield Airport on 29 March 2019. The new airport will have a modern terminal as well as a cargo terminal with an initial capacity of 30,000 tonnes per annum. Gwadar airport will also handle wide body aircraft like Airbus A380 and Boeing 747-8 with ease. The construction work of New Gwadar International Airport is being done by China Communications Construction Company and it is expected to be completed by September 2023.
