During one year, the prices of domestic gas cylinders have increased by Rs 218.50. The price of domestic gas cylinder in Delhi was Rs 834.50 on 23 July 2021, which has now become Rs 1053. Not only this, the government is also gradually ending the subsidy on gas cylinders. This has loosened the pockets of the general public, but crores of rupees have been deposited in the government treasury by cutting the subsidy.

Save Rs 11,654 crore on subsidy in one year:
In 2020-21, the central government had spent 11 thousand 896 crores as LPG subsidy. This figure has come down to just Rs 242 crore in 2021-22. In this way, the government has saved Rs 11,654 crore in just one financial year by eliminating the subsidy. Let us tell you that the government has now decided to give subsidy on gas cylinders only to the beneficiaries of Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) from June 2020. In such a situation, there has been a huge reduction in the number of subsidies from the government. It is worth noting that the government has given a subsidy of Rs 200 per cylinder till 12 gas cylinders are taken by the government to the beneficiaries of the Ujjwala scheme. This subsidy comes directly into the bank account of the beneficiaries. According to the Ministry of Petroleum, in the financial year 2017-18, the government spent 23 thousand 464 crore rupees on the subsidy on LPG. At the same time, in the financial year 2018-19, this number reached Rs 37 thousand 209 crore. In view of this burden, the government appealed to the people who are capable, they should give up their subsidy. On this appeal of the government, crores of customers of the country gave up the subsidy. After this, in the financial year 2019-20, the expenditure of the government decreased and came to 24 thousand 172 crores. In the next financial year 2020-21, this expenditure came down to Rs 11,896 crore. From the financial year 2019-20 to 2020-21, there was a decline of more than 50% on expenditure. This trend continued and in the financial year 2021-22, the expenditure on subsidy has come down to just Rs 242 crore.
