PM Modi will inaugurate the Viplavi Bharat gallery of Victoria Memorial Hall today

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the newly built Viplavi Bharat gallery at Victoria Memorial in Kolkata on the occasion of Martyrs' Day today. The Prime Minister's Office (PMO) gave this information on Tuesday. The PMO said that the Prime Minister will inaugurate the Viplavi Bharat Gallery, built at Victoria Memorial Hall, Kolkata, on March 23 at 6 pm through video conference and then address the gathering there.

It is to be known that Prime Minister Modi dedicated the iconic Old Currency Building, Belvedere House, Victoria Memorial Hall and Metcalfe House to the nation after renovation in Kolkata on 11 January 2020. During this, he expressed concern about the closure of three of the five galleries of the Victoria Memorial. He had suggested that there should be some place in it to showcase the contribution of freedom fighters and it should be named as Viplavi Bharat.

The PMO said that in this gallery the contribution of the revolutionaries in the freedom struggle and their armed resistance against the British colonial rule will be depicted. The PMO said, "This aspect is often not given due place in the main discourse of the freedom movement. The aim of this new gallery is to present a holistic depiction of all the events that reached their climax in 1947. Along with this, the important role played by the revolutionaries should also be highlighted.

The PMO said that the Viplavi Bharat gallery presents the political and intellectual background that inspired the revolutionary movement. Glimpses of the birth of revolutionary movement, formation of important organizations by revolutionaries, expansion of movement, formation of Indian National Army, contribution of naval rebellion etc. will be presented in the gallery.
