Jagdeep Dhankhar belongs to the influential Jat community of Rajasthan. Margaret Alva is a senior Congress leader and she has also served as the Governor of Rajasthan. Let us tell you that the contest is going to be between NDA candidate Jagdeep Dhankhar and the opposition's Margaret Alva. With the ruling BJP having an absolute majority in the Lok Sabha and 91 members in the Rajya Sabha, Dhankhar has a clear edge over his rival. He is more likely to replace incumbent Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu, whose term ends on August 10. All MPs of Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, including nominated members, are eligible to vote in the Vice-President's election. Both houses of Parliament can have a total of 788 MPs, out of which eight seats in the Upper House are currently vacant. 780 MPs are eligible to vote in the Vice Presidential election.
