Magha Purnima Vrat Story
A Brahmin named Dhaneshwar lived in Kantika Nagar. He used to earn his living by taking alms. The Brahmin and his wife had no children. One day the Brahmin's wife went to the city to beg for alms, but people taunted her by calling her infertile and refused to give alms. This made her very sad. Then someone asked him to worship Maa Kali for 16 days.

The Brahmin couple followed all the rules and worshiped Maa Kali for 16 days. On the 16th day, Mother Kali was pleased and appeared and gave a boon to the Brahmini to become pregnant. Also said that you light a lamp on the full moon and keep increasing this lamp on every full moon. Until these lamps are at least 32 in number. Along with this, both husband and wife together keep the fast of Purnima.

The Brahmin couple started lighting the lamp on the full moon day as per the mother's advice and both of them started fasting for the full moon. Meanwhile, the Brahmin also became pregnant and after some time she gave birth to a son, who was named Devdas. But Devdas was short lived. When Devdas grew up, he was sent to Kashi to study with his maternal uncle.

An accident happened to both of them in Kashi, due to which Devdas got married by fraud. After some time Kaal came to take his life, but the Brahmin couple had kept a full moon fast for their son on that day, due to which Kaal could not harm him even after wanting to do anything and he got the gift of life. In this way, by fasting on the day of the full moon, one gets freedom from all the troubles and all the wishes are fulfilled.
